Habits of Happiness Wheel

1 Gratitude Is Great

Record three things you are grateful for in your Gratitude Journal.

Guiding questions:
Why are you grateful for these things?
How does it make you feel when you think about these things that you have listed?

2 Kind Kids

Think of one random act of kindness you can complete and – once you’ve done it – record it in your Gratitude Journal.

Guiding questions:
When will you carry out your act of kindness?
How will you remember to carry out your act of kindness?

3 Jot it in the Journal

Think about a positive experience from the day and take two minutes to record it in your Gratitude Journal.

Guiding questions:
What made you happy today and why?

4 Fitness Freaks

Choose a short activity to do together e.g. run around the oval, complete 50 star jumps, or have a hand-stand competition.

Guiding questions:
What are the benefits of being active?
What is your favourite way to be active outside of school?
How do you feel now that you have been a ‘fitness freak’?

5 Secret Meeting

Meet with your gratitude buddy and plan the week’s home service together. Record it in your Gratitude Journals.

Guiding questions:
What are the different ideas that you and your partner can think of for home service this week?
Will you and your partner choose to do the same type of home service or will you choose to do different things?
When will you do your home service this week?
How will others benefit from your home service this week? How will it make them feel?
How will you feel after you have completed your home service?

6 Drop it in the Jar

Write something you are grateful for on a piece of paper and drop it in the Gratitude Jar.

Guiding questions:
Why are you grateful for this?
How does it make you feel when you think about what you are grateful for today?

7 Recognition Mission

In pairs or as a group, discuss something positive you witnessed your classmate do during the day or the day before.

Guiding questions:
What are some examples of positive actions that you might see today?
How often do you notice your friends doing positive things?

8 Future Rewards

In your Gratitude Journal list three things you are looking forward to e.g. a birthday party, sporting match, a family holiday.

Guiding questions:
Why are you looking forward to these events?
How will these things make you happy?

9 Rad Reader

As a class read five pages of a non-fiction book. Preferably a book where students can take what they learn and apply it in their own life.

Guiding questions:
What have you learnt from today’s reading?
Why is it so beneficial to read books other than story-books?

10 Team Effort

Choose five home service suggestions from the class and vote on which one everyone will complete. Record it in your Gratitude Journal.

Guiding questions:
When will you do your home service this week?
How will others benefit from your home service this week? How will it make them feel?
How will you feel after you have completed your home service?

11 Gratitude Tree

Write something you are grateful for on a paper leaf and stick it on the Gratitude Tree Poster.

Guiding questions:
Why are you grateful for this?
How does it make you feel when you think about what you are grateful for today?

12 Nomination Box

On a slip of paper write a random act of kindness you have recently witnessed by a fellow student then place it in the box. Read them out.

Guiding questions:
What are some examples of acts of kindness that you might see today?
How often do you notice your friends doing acts of kindness things?

13 Social Butterflies

In small groups spend a few minutes talking to each other about something that has made you happy recently or what your are grateful for that day.

Guiding questions:
Why did this make you happy/grateful?
Does hearing about other peoples happiness make you feel happy?

14 Mindful Meditation

Listen to the Growing with Gratitude Mindfulness Meditation CD.

Guiding questions:
How did you feel before the mediation?
How do you feel now?

15 Report to The General

Briefly report to the class on your last home service task and how you felt completing it.

Guiding questions:
What was your Home Service this week?
How did you feel after completing the Home Service?
How did it make the people you were serving feel?
