5 Ways to Cultivate Gratitude #2

July 4, 2015

Last week I mentioned I will be writing a series of posts featuring a gratitude activity each week. Last weeks gratitude activity for the classroom and and at home was Create a Gratitude Album. The Gratitude album is an awesome way to practice gratitude. This weeks activity to help cultivate gratitude is:

Gratitude Activity Series – Activity No. 2

Gratitude Buddy

  • Find a friend or family member to be your gratitude buddy
  • Instead of writing things you grateful for share them with your buddy
  • You may like to show your buddy your favourite view of nature, your favourite restaurant, your favourite sporting hero, etc.
  • Or share a photo album, scrap book, etc
  • You may like to meet once a week, once a month or when you feel the need

Children and adults that are grateful and positive also tend to:

  • cope better with stress and trauma
  • have more friends and social support
  • be more productive and creative at work
  • be better leaders and negotiators
  • be less depressed and anxious
  • make more money and have superior jobs
  • have better physical health
  • get in less trouble at school
  • make exercising a habit
  • commit to achieving goals
  • are often first to help other people
  • have fulfilling marriages later in life, and be less likely to divorce.(Seligman, 2013)

“Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.”
